Sky Simpson is a junior at Carmel High School who has Down syndrome. Through the school’s Best Buddies program, Molly Shaffer, Brad Shaffer’s daughter, met Sky and learned about the vision he and his father, Steve, are setting out to create through Sky Boxes.
Sky Boxes is a sole proprietorship between Steve and Sky Simpson that came about after Steve started assessing Sky’s post-graduation options. After discussing the idea with friends and colleagues, Steve knew that, with assistance, Sky could dig a hole large enough to replace a mailbox post. With that thought, Sky Boxes was born. Not only does Sky repair the mailboxes, but he also makes sure they have an accurate inventory of tools and materials needed to complete each job.

After learning about Sky’s work, Brad Shaffer, Manager of Estes Design Mailboxes and Streetscapes offered to help. Estes Designs helps supply Sky with some of the materials that he needs to dig post holes and replace posts. So far Sky Boxes has installed six mailboxes and has plans to grow in the future.
