Despite the unseasonably warm start to November, we all know winter will soon be here. At Estes Designs Mailbox and Streetscapes, we want to make sure your mailbox is prepared for whatever weather comes our way by providing some helpful tips for maintaining your mailbox throughout the winter months.
Take advantage of the current warm temperatures to winterize your mailbox by following these steps:
- Paint the post before it gets too cold, ideally warmer than 40°F.
- Adjust your mailbox door & latch, making sure the door fits tightly into place to fend off the elements and make sure your mail will stay dry.
- Firm up your post by compacting the soil around its base so it can withstand plows pushing snow up against the curb.
By completing these simple tips, you will save time and money by having a mailbox that will not need replaced come spring. However, if you do run into issues with your mailbox or post, please call us at 317-899-5556.
