In the future, the postal service may require you to walk a bit farther than the end of your driveway to retrieve your mail. As costs are increasing for the United States Postal Service, they are searching for ways to reduce expenses and ensure mail delivery remains available to all. One way the USPS has done this is by the implementation of cluster mailbox units, or CBUs. According to the USPS, a CBU is a “free-standing, pedestal mounted mailbox containing 8, 12, 13, or 16 individually locked mailboxes and parcel compartments”. CBUs are becoming the preferred option by the USPS and Homeowners Associations alike.
With a group of centrally located mailboxes for a street or neighborhood, postal workers are saving time and lowering the costs by only having to make one stop. According to an article from CNN, Goodbye, mail carrier; hello, cluster mailboxes, by adding cluster mailboxes to new and even established developments, the USPS could save about $4 billion by using CBUs, lowering costs per mailbox as well.
Cluster mailboxes can also be used to hold packages delivered by the USPS. Florence Manufacturing Company is the only approved manufacturer of Parcel Lockers for cluster boxes. As an authorized dealer of Florence Manufacturing Cluster Box Units (pictured below), Estes Designs can discuss with you the benefits of installing CBUs in your community and the additions that can be made to your CBUs.
